What is Japanese Peony Extract?

The Japanese Peony extract comes from the Niigata region in Japan. It blooms for seven to ten days from the middle of May to the middle of June, after surviving a winter of heavy snowfall. In fact, the white colour is symbolic of this snowy district where it grows. Generally, peonies don’t do well in harsh environments however after more than three decades of farmers selectively breeding the plant, this peony flower is incredibly resilient.

The peony flower is delicately hand-picked from the rich, lush soil of Niigata; only the flower petals are carefully picked while the rest of the plant remains in the soil, ready to grow again. It is cultivated in a natural, open-air environment, as opposed to a controlled greenhouse, and is dried only using the heat of natural sunshine. The whole process is a much more sustainable way of harvesting.
