How to apply MAC Retro Matte Lipstick?
The Retro Matte Liquid Lip is my favourite lipstick formula, it lends a perfect stamped on statement lip or allows for easy ombres but its pigment packed delivery can seem overwhelming!
This is my most used formula so I have mastered the art of seamless application and am happy to break it down for you...Place the pointed tip of the tulip shaped wand into the corner laying the flat fatter side against the lip, lining up as close as you can to your lip line. Now simply pull the wand inwards across the lip in one slow, smooth stroke, following the lip line as it curves up to the tip of the cupids bow and stopping when you pull almost diagonally down to the very centre. This allows the wand itself to deliver a crisp sharp solid line covering most or all of the lip surface. Repeat on the bottom again from the corner, almost inside the mouth pulling into the centre - I usually have 2/3rds of the lip covered with each stoke so it’s more than ok to have layers, just make sure they are not too thick as that can discomfort and create flakes later in the day! Now you can use the tip of the wand to make precise and somewhat gentle changes (for me this is usually in the centre of the lips especially the cupids bow) Holding the wand almost vertically this time, allowing the shape of the tip to fill in any areas that need attention. You will not need to re-dip the wand for the entire process unless it has dried out and you are finding it hard to get a crisp edge.
PRO TIP:
If you still struggle with that sharp edge then line your lips before or after with Lip pencil - you may even prefer the finish that that gives you, and like everything the more you use it the more you will perfect it!
