What colour should lip liner be?
At MAC, our Lip Pencils are created to work with multiple lipstick colour choices but can also be worn alone over the entire lip to provide colour which lasts much longer than lipstick alone. The colour is protected by Vitamin E which acts as an anti-oxidant and the pencil contains emmollients which are naturally derived from vegetables. The pencils are designed to be just soft and creamy enough to provide comfort during application, yet firm enough to hold a point for precise lining of the lip.
A good choice of colour for a lip pencil would be a shade that has the same tone as your lipstick so that they can marry together. This will ensure an even tone of colour with precise application. A great example of this would be to pair MAC Beet Lip Pencil with the MAC All Fired Up Retro Matte Lipstick as these two are a perfect duo!
If you would prefer to go for a more ombre lip look, (the blending of one colour hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from light to dark) you would choose a lip pencil that is slightly darker than your lipstick choice. Skipping a lip pencil with your lipstick is a missed opportunity to make your lips look fuller and much more defined. I never use a freshly-sharpened lip pencil when applying it on myself as a sharp tip can drag across the skin and be far too dark and harsh. Instead, after sharpening blunt your gorgeous lip pencil slightly by drawing a MAC doodle on the back of your hand and VOILA.. the perfect tip for application!!!
