What is matte lipstick?
Matte Lipstick starts with a special lipstick base which provides maximum colour payoff combined with a no-shine texture. A matte formula contains several emollients plus a matting agent called Silica. In our MAC lipstick formula there are Vitamin E and a Vitamin C derivatives which act as anti-oxidants, Castor Oil which is an emollient to help soften and soothe the lips, as well as a crystalline version of Vanilla which is added for aroma.
Matte lipsticks are some of the most pigmented and that means you don’t have to apply layer after layer to get a full coverage lip look. As is requires less re-application throughout the day these lipsticks will last longer which means they're a real money saver! With just one swipe over your top and bottom lip, you’re ready to go!
Make sure you always prep your lips before applying a matte lipstick with MAC Prep + Prime Lip, a solid primer designed to help condition the lips and enhance the apperance of lipstick. It will help to give you professional-looking appliation of colour that resists feathering!
If you're looking for a perfect nude matte shade, try MAC Velvet Teddy, it's one of my favourite lip colours and I love to pair it with MAC Spice Lip Pencil to create a beautiful warm beige-tone nude. Velvet Teddy is universally flattering and can work with both fair and darker skin tones. I normally wear an NC35 in our Studio Fix Fluid Foundation which has a gorgeous peachy golden undertone for medium skin and Velvet Teddy works perfectly for me. The combination of a matte lip with dewy/glowing skin is one of my all time favorite looks. Try popping one of my faourite highlighter's, MAC Mineralzie Skinfinish Soft & Gentle, on the high points of your face to deliver the perfect balance between matte and beautifl luminous skin.

On occassions I will cover my lips first with some MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. This ensures that the colour payoff from my lipstick is even stronger and more nude looking! It's the first thing I reach for when I want a perfect MAC nude lip!
