What is the purpose Lip Liner?

Lip liners are composed of waxes, oils, and pigment, making them firmer in consistency and more deeply pigmented. This mean they are suitable for drawing on to the lip with precision. There are several functions of a lip liner.

Firstly it helps to shape lips and allows you to recreate any shape you want, either a sharp pointed lip or a rounded more bubble shaped lip. The best way to create a sharp lip line is to use a pencil starting from the top of the lips working downwards towards the corners of the mouth, and then from the bottom lip again towards the inner corners. You can either do this with a nude pencil if you want a natural lip, colours like Boldly Bare and Spice, or with a bright colour of your choice. To create a bubble shaped lip, you would do the same except use the outer lip line as a guide to give your lips a fuller appearance. Lip liners can also help lipsticks last longer on the lip, you can use them to shade in the lips before applying lipstick on the top. This will help the lipstick adhere better to the lips and stop it from fading away and feathering.

Another main purpose of using a lip pencil would be to fill in uneven areas on the outer edges of the lips especially for those who may not be comfortable in applying lipstick to the lips, using a lip pencil will help to fill in areas where the lipstick has not reached and alternatively will make the lipstick application look cleaner and neater.

Lip liners can also be used on their own to create a soft worn out effect on the lips for those who do not like bold lipsticks.

PRO TIP:
Did you know that applying lip balm to the lips 10-15 min before any lip application will help to moisturize the lip-beds which will help draw better strokes with a lip pencil.
