What is the purpose of lipgloss?

The main purpose of a Lipgloss is to give lips a shiny lustre slick finish and in some cases to add subtle colour.

Lipglosses can be in liquid form or an easy-to-apply solid. They are typically shiny, but can also have a glittery, opalescent, or metallic finish. Liquid forms of gloss provide more shine than solids because they add a thicker layer of cosmetic to the lips. Glosses can be worn either on there own or on top of lipstick to help enhance the lips making them appear fuller. This is great for those who want their lips to appear more plump.

The best way to apply lipgloss would be to firstly complete all your makeup, then add a clear moisturizer to the lips such as the Mac Lip conditioner. This will help to hydrate, nourish, condition and soften the lips so that when you apply products ontop, the lip surface will be smooth and chap-free. Then use a lip pencil to bring out your lips and create the desired shape. If you are looking for a natural colour then lip pencils such as Spice and Soar are great. They are earthy tones and match well with many natural lipgloss shades. You can then either apply lipstick and add your gloss on top, or apply your lipgloss straight onto the lips. You can also add just a small touch of gloss to the centre of your lips for a sexy pout that is not overly shiny.

Natural gloss shades like Spice and Elemental-Forces are great everyday shades that work well with different skin tones to give a soft suble colour with high glass-like shine. Lip glosses have a wet texture and do not dry on the lips, so using a pencil is a good way of containing the gloss and stopping it from spreading out of the lip line.

PRO TIP:
Did you know that the wax and petroleum in lip gloss acts as a waterproof barrier that prevents the evaporation of internal skin moisture, especially on cold, dry and windy days. Therefore this helps to keep the lips soft and moist.
